Creating the child's profile on the Register

Scotland’s Adoption Register is an online service run in collaboration with Link Maker. To refer a child to the Register the social worker completes an online profile. In some agencies the profiles are completed by the family finding team – agencies can determine themselves who is best placed to make the referrals.

Once completed the profile becomes live on the system when it is ‘submitted’ – it will then be visible to social workers and adopters who are signed up to use the system – as well as to Register staff. The child’s social worker can limit the extent to which the profile is made visible.

Regulations introduced in 2016, place a duty on agencies to refer children to the register within 3 months of the decision being taken to register the child for adoption. There is nothing to stop a referral being made earlier if you consider this to be in the child’s best interests.

Signing up with the Register

To refer a child by submitting their profile, you must first get signed up to the system. To begin this process click on the orange Link Maker button at the top right hand side of the screen.

It is of critical importance that the security of the system is maintained – you will be asked to create a safe  password and provided with a PIN to gain access to the site. Your access will be via your work email address.
